Rules and Information

Themes: Freedom, Equality, Justice and Love

Criteria: Each of the criteria listed below must be met:

● Make sure the student’s name, grade, and teacher is visibly included on the poster and writing piece.

● The poster and writing must relate to the theme above.

● Sentences/paragraphs must be written or typed on a separate sheet of paper and explain how the poster reflects any of the themes and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s life/work.

o K-1st grade students write 1-2 sentences. If the learner can not write a sentence, it may be dictated to a helper that writes the sentence.

o 2nd-3rd grade students write 1 paragraph (paragraph contains a minimum of 4 sentences)

o 4th grade students write 2 paragraphs (each paragraph contains a minimum of 8 sentences for a minimum total of 16 sentences)

● Any drawing instruments may be used for the poster (crayons, colored pencils, markers, etc.); computer generated art or photos taken by the student may also be incorporated into the poster design.

o Posters may be any size

o Posters should contain more than 1 color

● Sentences/paragraphs will be judged on relevance to theme, spelling, grammar, punctuation, content and creativity.

● Posters will be judged on relevance to theme, quality of design and creativity.


Deadline: All submissions must be turned into the office by Thursday, January 20, 2022

Results: Winners will be announced via morning announcements on Monday, January 24th.

Prizes: One winner will be selected from each grade. The student and the classroom teacher of the winning submission will receive a prize!!!
